Appellation: Tokaj Fordítás (approx.
100 g/l res. sugar)
Vineyard: 45 hectares of Domaine Imperial Hétszölö
(south-south east exposure) whose soil composition is loess with clay
and a sub-soil of volcanic rock.
Varietals: Furmint (90 - 100%), Harslevelü
Production: 6 000 bottles depending on the vintage.
History: This is one of the historic wines which had disappeared between
1950 and the late 1980's and which has now been brought back by Hétszölö.
While almost as sweet as the Aszú wines, it is slightly lighter in body.
Vinification: The word "Fordítás" comes from the verb
"Fordit" which means to "pour over". After a first
pressing (which becomes "Aszú"), the base wine is "poured
over" onto the remaining marc. Then, a second maceration occurs.
The wines are aged, like the Aszú's, in oak barrels in the estates underground
vaulted cellars during a period of 2-3 years.
Style: Beautiful amber colour. The bouquet is fruity (candied fruit,
dried apricots and raisins), with a slight honeyed aroma. A subtle whiff
of fresh acidity highlights the overall fruitiness. To the palate, this
wine is delicate and zesty, crisp, full-bodied and without any heaviness.
The finish is quite long and immediately invites another sip. Excellent
as an aperitif or with dessert. This lighter sweet wine can, in fact,
be enjoyed throughout the meal. Serve at 10-12° C (50-54° F).
