Médoc
The official
Médoc Grands Crus Classés classification dates back to 1855. 61 estates are ranked from "1st Growth" (Premier Grand Cru Classé) to "5th Growth". The only non-Médoc wine included in this classification is Ch. Haut Brion in Pessac-Léognan. Also check this classification
by appellation.
Below the 5th Growth category comes the
Cru Bourgeois classification (2003). Some Cru Bourgeois wines (example: Sociando Mallet, Chasse Spleen, Poujeaux …), are usually included in the larger (though non-official) category of "Crus Classés or assimilated".
