Classification system
In 1955, the wines of Saint-Emilion were classified into two categories:
"Premiers Grands Crus Classés" and "Grands Crus Classés". This classification is open to revision, usually
every
10 years. At present, 13 estates have "Premiers Grands Crus Classés" status (including Cheval Blanc and
Ausone
who have the "A" ranking, or 1st of the First Growths). 57 estates have the "Grand Cru Classé" status.
