NAME CITRAN (Château)

PROPRIETOR Antoine Merlaut (acquired in 1996)

APPELLATION Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois

VINEYARD 90 hectares (220 acres)

VARIETALS 58% Cabernet Sauvignon
42% Merlot

PRODUCTION Estimated at 35000-40000 cs (Grand Vin)
2nd wine: Moulin de Citran (5000 cs)

MARKET NOTE If you have pre-1987 vintages of Citran in you cellar, throw them away (or drink them with caution immediately). Since then, and particularly since 1996, Citran is yet another outstanding example that Bordeaux is NOT expensive.

It is true that 40000 cs is alot of wine to distribute.
