NAME SIRENE DE GISCOURS (La)
(2nd wine Ch. Giscours)

APPELLATION Margaux, 2nd wine

COMMUNE Labarde

VINEYARD 137 hectares. Average age: 30 years old Fine gravels “garonnaises” and limestone
VARIETALS 55% Cabernet Sauvignon
40% Merlot
5% Cabernet Franc

PRODUCTION 10,000 – 15,000 cases

VINIFICATION Work on the vineyard during the year including de-leafing (or “effeuillage”) and green harvesting. The entire production is harvested by hand. The vinification is traditional in stainless steel temperature-control vats. Long maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Ageing in barrels during 12-14 months (1 year barrels previously for the Grand Vin).

It is important to note that there is even a 3rd selection (sold as bulk wine with no reference to Giscours) which proves that La Sirène is NOT the waste-paper label for the estate. Moreover, the current owner (The Albada family since 1995) has made significant steps and investments to continue to push up the quality of Giscours.

STYLE Beautiful brilliant colour. Expressive nose characterised by red fruits: black currant. Soft, seductive wine, sufficient weight and density. Excellent sense of origin and appellation.

MARKET NOTE Giscours is a house-hold brand in Bordeaux and recognized internationally for its seductive style within the remarkable Margaux appellation.
