| MARKET NOTE |
La Gurgue has been in the Villars family since 1978. This is the "last" and only Cru Bourgeois of Claire's estates (those which immediately come to mind are Haut Bages Liberal, in Pauillac, and Ferrière, in Margaux. Both of which I strongly recommend as fabulous Crus Classés values !)
While somewhat the "forgotten" family estate, Claire Villars has just begun to seriously work on upgrading the wines of La Gurgue. Prior to the 2000 vintage, while rather pleasant, occassionally rich and smoothly textured, the wines seemed to have lacked attention. Since 2000, they are much more polished and refined with much better fruit definition, structure and complexity.
This has become, since 2000-2001, a strongly recommended Margaux Cru Bourgeois ! |
