APPELLATION Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois

COMMUNE Macau-en-Médoc (juste au sud de Margaux)

VINEYARD 60 hectares touching estates such as Cantemerle and Giscours. Fine gravel for 40 % of the vineyards, large gravel dating from the quaternary period for the remaining 60%.
VARIETALS 50% Merlot
30% Cabernet Sauvignon
20% Cabernet Franc
Average age: 25 years

PRODUCTION 17 000 – 20 000 cs

VINIFICATION From sunrise in July to sunset in August, excess leaves are taking away from the fruit-bearing areas to enable enhanced ripeness. Healthy and ripe grapes are harvested 100% by hand, with a strong selection of the best grapes on a sorting table. Vinification in thermally-regulated vats to control low-temperature maceration. Aged in oak barrels (of which 40% are renewed each year) for 12 months prior to bottling.

STYLE Rich, ripe, classic Bordeaux aromas. Tobacco, chocolate and vanillin flavors dominate on the palate which is rather opulent and multi-layered. Excellent concentration and direction in this wine. Great breed.

A fabulous wine and a great value !

MARKET NOTE An excellent terroir, JP Marie’s arrival in 1996, important technical investments along with the technical guidance of G. Vialard (previously at Smith Haut Lafitte) have all contributed to the immediate qualitative renaissance of this château.
